Effectively engaging with stakeholders is like playing the orchestra. It more than just a fine art; there is practised science behind it. It consists of assessing your stakeholders’ mental maps, what motivates and triggers them; how can we find the right connections to build rapport with them, how can we put across our point assertively without getting into a conflict.
Managing expectations and communicating with stakeholders are at the heart of project success.
A Project Manager’s job is cut out in terms of effectively engaging the stakeholders to steer the project to success be it managing team dynamics in large, distributed teams or managing expectations of the project sponsor and balancing external pressures. It is important to understand not only stakeholders’ interests and level of influence in a project but also their mental maps to be able to effectively engage with them. This ensures that they are contributing positively to the project’s success.
“Lost in translation – Part II” is a one day power workshop designed to help you find out what influences your stakeholders, what can you do to influence them and build rapport with them.
